WRITING - Advice to the Hopeless

Dear Joe Bob---

I just came across something published in the Sewanee Rev. 25 years ago, when I was an Aggie (visiting distinguished prof., believe it or not, for short "the VD prof".). It seems to be the first time I mentioned your name in print.

Keep on,
PS--I have found a real NC poet named John Henry Boner. Would you like a certificate naming you a MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING of the JOHN HENRY BONER SOCIETY?

Where the hell have you been??? Yes, you were an early Joe Bob adopter and you were part of my ignominous ascent when you put me in the Handbook of Southern Literature. And yes, of course I want a certificate.

Hang in there,

Joe Bob

Hello Joe Bob,

I found on your site you mentioned 80's sleazoid express. I live in Rome, Italy and I'm hoping to find copies of some of these eighties era sleazoids. I'd be happy to send any weird or rare Italian dvd's in exchange. If u can help or know someone who can please let me

Wow, those would be really really rare, because they tended to be falling apart when you first got them in the mail in the early eighties!

It's been a while and hope all is well with you. I found some interesting info from my grandfather. He owned a Drive in back in the 50's I believe it was, or it may have been the 60's at the latest. It was called Walt's Drive In out here in Orange County. Let me know if you've ever heard of that one. I found that to be interesting news. I don't think it stood very long, since he sold it early on. This was before or just as my father was born too and way before my time. Let me know what you think and how everything is and what the latest is with ya! Talk to you later!

Hey man, great to hear from you. I'm not sure I ever heard of Walt's Drive-In, but if there was a drive-in in Orange County in the fifties with the name Walt on it, wouldn't everybody think it belonged to Walt Disney? If it belonged to your father instead, then I'm in awe. What a great promotion! Truly worth of some sort of exploitation award.

Hang in there,

Joe Bob

Joe Bob,
Just thought you'd appreciate the e-mail I sent my brother a few weeks ago. (My brother and I are, and always will be, huge Monstervision fans.)

See ya,

The other night I was up late and high on cough medicine (you know the feeling), and I felt like watching some early seventies low budget satanic psychedelia. So I went with Mephisto Waltz. You were right, it's a cool flick. And Jacqueline Bisset is ridiculously hot. Here's my Drive-in Totals:

* 4 dead bodies
* 7 breasts
* Gratuitous Alan Alda
* Gratuitous soft focus dream sequences
* Incest, adultery and general seventies swing
* Witchcraft Fu
* Labrador Fu
Three Stars!!

Excellent review. Jacqueline Bisset always looked like she just had sex five minutes ago, you know what I mean? I totally agree with you.
